History Behind Narsimha Avatar
From the Puranas, it describes that the previous incarnation of lord Vishu “Varaha” killed the asura Hiranyakasya. So, Hiranyakasya elder brother Hiranyakasyapu wanted to take revenge on Vishu and his followers. After reconciliation, for many years Brahma offers a boon to the king Hiranyakasyapu. Then Hiranyakasyapu asked for immortality. Then Lord Brahma said he cannot give immortality to anyone else.
Thus the king Hiranyakasyapu decided to get immortality indirectly from Brahma and asked him that I should not get death by living things. He also asked him I not die inside or outside the residence in the daytime or not at the night time. Not on the ground or not in the sky. My death should not be with weapons nor by animals or human beings. Then Brahma granted him according to his wish. Hiranyakasyapu was very happy that he can overcome his death.
Hiranyakasyapu was blessed with a son, he named his son as “Prahlada. His son was a great devotee of Lord Vishnu. So, he decided to kill his son. In every attempt to kill his son, Prahlada was protected by “mystical powers of lord Vishnu”. Hiranyakasipu, unable to control his anger and kicked on the pillar, with a thundering sound Lord Vishnu appeared as Narasimha from it.
