Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Pays Homage: Harjit Singh Sajjan was born in Bombeli, which is in the Hoshiarpur district of Punjab in India. Sajjan family moved to Canada when he was five years old.

Sajjan is the Canadian Politician who is serving as the Defence Minister from 5th November 2015. Harjit Singh Sajjan is the first Sikh to become the Minister of Defence in Canada. Also, Sajjan is the fifth Minister of Canada to visit India in 2017.

Canadian Defence Minister Harjit Singh Sajjan visited India with his schedule to speak on bilateral issues of defence and security. The discussions will take place with Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj. Before his visit, a team of Canada visited India to make necessary preparations and for security purpose.

It seems that Sajjan will visit Amritsar, Chandigarh and Jalandhar on his visit to India. Sajjan arrived Punjab yesterday. Today morning he visited Golden Temple in Amritsar. And he also paid homage to the martyrs.

The members of Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) welcomed Sajjan. He was received formally at Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport.

SGPC chief Prof Kirpal Singh Badugnar said that it is the proud moment that a Sikh has attained the top designation in the foreign country. SGPC members also honoured Sajjan with a shawl, golden temple model and a sword.

Harjit Singh is also expected to meet Punjab CM Captain Amarinder Singh. But Amarinder Singh described Sajjan as ‘Pro-Khalistani’ and said that he is not ready to meet him during his visit.

He will visit Bombeli, his native place to cherish the childhood memories. Sajjan will also visit Chandigarh on Friday and inaugurate the office of the Consulate-General of Canada.

The visit of Harjit Singh Sajjan to India is to strengthen the bilateral issues regarding defence and security with Canada.
