Microsoft’s Vision AI Developer Kit Now Generally Available To All Customers

Vision AI Developer Kit for the IoT solutions like home monitoring cameras, enterprise security cameras and smart homes devices comes with built-in artificial intelligence. These hardware and software components are in place for you to use directly.

Microsoft announced the partnership with Qualcomm during its annual Build developer conference at Seattle on May 2018. They are planning to develop a kit for computer vision applications.

The Vision AI Developer Kit is a hardware base built on Qualcomm’s Vision Intelligence Platform designed to run AI models. It integrated with Microsoft’s Azure ML and Azure IoT Edge cloud services, which became available for customers in last October.

The Microsoft and Qualcomm announced that Vision AI Developer Kit is now widely available from distributor Arrow Electronics for the cost of $249. A software development kit that contains Visual Studio Code with Python modules is possible.

A pre-built Azure IoT deployment configurations and a vision AI developer kit extension for vision Studio are on Github, along with a default module that recognises upwards of 183 different objects.

A few months ago, the Qualcomm and Microsoft were working to create a Vision, AI Developer Kit. They could apply in areas like retail, manufacturing, logistics and smart homes. Qualcomm Artificial Intelligence Engine powers the platform so you can quickly run the machines learning models in IoT devices.

Microsoft principle project manager Anne Yang says that Vision AI Developer Kit can be used to create apps. It can ensure every person on a construction site, detect whether items are out-of-stock or on a store shelf.

Artificial intelligence workloads include megabytes of data and potentially billions of calculations. In hardware, we can run time-sensitive AI workloads on the edge while also sending outputs to the cloud for downstream applications.

Programmers attempting with the AI Developer Kit can choose Azure ML for AI Model creation and monitoring. The Azure IoT Edge for model management and deployment. You and the Microsoft AI Developer kit available in the market can use it for your purposes.

They have to build a vision model by uploading tagged pictures to Azure Blob Storage and letting Azure Custom vision service will do the rest. We can also employ jupyter notebooks and Visual Studio Code to device and train custom vision models using AML. Convert the trained models to DLC format and packaging them into an IoT Edge module.

The Vision AI Developer Kit which runs Yocto Linux has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 603 as the core. It pairs with 4 GB of LDDR4X and 64 GB of onboard storage.

An eight-megapixel camera sensor records footage in 4K UHD handles footage capture duties. A four-microphone array captures sounds and commands. The AI Developer kit has a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with 2.4 GHz/5Ghz but with an HDMI out port. It has an audio in and out ports, and USB –C port for data transfer also has a port for micro SD card for the additional storage.

The Snapdragon Neural Processing engine within Qualcomm Vision Intelligence 300 platform powers the on-device execution. Using AI Developer Kit, you can deploy vision models at the intelligent edge in minutes. Regardless of current machine learning skill level, you are using.

The AI Developer kit has a difference in Amazon’s AWS DeepLens gives developers a chance to run deep learning models locally camera. It helps to analyse and take the actions on the situation it sees. Google recently made available the Coral Dev Board, a hardware kit for accelerated AI Edge computing. It ships alongside a USB Camera.

The computing process is very fast, like instead of sending the image to the cloud interface and waiting for quick responses. The platform can evaluate locally in real-time and act according to the situations.

The AI developer kit is reference implementation to jumpstart the development of cameras at the network edge.
